Prices as of 3:38 PM ET, Monday 19 October 2026. Options volume is the live session tape at the same moment. Everything below moves continuously and is sourced.
After the Nasdaq's worst week since late June, large-cap tech is bouncing, and the options tape tells you exactly where the conviction is: not in the biggest mover of the day. Amazon is up 5.46% and has no contract on the most-active list. The only Magnificent-group contracts there are three same-day calls, two on Nvidia and one on Tesla, each struck right around spot and each trading at roughly thirty to forty times the open interest that existed before the bell.
| Ticker | Change | Price | Share volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| AMZN | +13.65 (+5.46%) | 263.65 | 39.06M |
| TSLA | +14.33 (+4.04%) | 369.05 | 31.70M |
| AMD | +14.08 (+2.66%) | 542.83 | 16.37M |
| AVGO | +7.44 (+2.26%) | 336.19 | 10.49M |
| NVDA | +4.09 (+1.91%) | 218.22 | 71.39M |
| GOOGL | +5.50 (+1.61%) | 346.09 | 12.31M |
| MSFT | +5.69 (+1.08%) | 534.74 | 11.51M |
| AAPL | −0.86 (−0.25%) | 342.60 | 22.65M |
| META | −2.86 (−0.40%) | 706.46 | 11.65M |
Seven of the nine are green, and the two that are not, Apple and Meta, are barely red. Nvidia is the volume story on the share side too: 71.39 million shares by 3:38 PM, more than any other name in the group by a wide margin.
Twenty-five contracts make up the most-active list this afternoon. Twenty-two of them are index products, fourteen on SPY and eight on QQQ, nearly all expiring today. Three are Magnificent-group names. The right-hand column is the one worth reading: volume against existing open interest separates new positioning from old positions being closed.
| Contract | Last | Volume | Open interest | Vol ÷ OI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| NVDA 217.5 call, same-day | 0.49 | 251,398 | 6,009 | 41.8× |
| NVDA 220 call, same-day | 0.03 | 334,956 | 11,486 | 29.2× |
| TSLA 370 call, same-day | 0.27 | 248,548 | 8,930 | 27.8× |
The expiry comes from the contract symbols themselves (NVDA261019, TSLA261019), which put all three on today, 19 October. Yahoo's expiration column has disagreed with the symbol on this list before, so the symbol is the one we trust.
Turnover of thirty to forty times open interest is not hedging and it is not position maintenance. It is same-day trading, opened and closed inside the session, clustered on strikes within a couple of dollars of spot: Nvidia's 217.5 and 220 calls bracket a $218.22 stock, and Tesla's 370 call sits just above $369.05. The 220 call's last trade at three cents shows how little time those contracts had left by mid-afternoon.
Amazon. It is the best performer in the group by more than a full percentage point, on 39.06 million shares, and not one Amazon strike appears among the most-active contracts. The move has a clear, reported catalyst: Morgan Stanley named Amazon a top pick on Monday, arguing that growth at its AWS cloud business will accelerate as enterprise use of its AI platform broadens, according to Yahoo Finance and GuruFocus.
A catalyst-driven move with no contract concentration is a different shape from the Nvidia and Tesla tape. The buying in Amazon is showing up in the shares, not in short-dated calls.
The Nasdaq Composite is up 1.44% at 26,516.38 and the S&P 500 up 0.65% at 7,709.61, while the Dow is roughly flat, up 0.05% at 52,028.56. The Russell 2000 is up 0.34% at 2,730.74. The setting matters: the Nasdaq fell 4.5% last week, its worst week since late June, according to The Motley Fool's midday coverage, which describes today as growth stocks recovering as confidence in the AI trade returns.
Elsewhere, the 10-year Treasury yield is 5.14%, up 0.04 points. Gold is down 0.47% at $4,161.50 and West Texas crude down 0.65% at $98.38. The Cboe Volatility Index is down 9.15% at 18.16, which fits a session where fear is easing rather than a new trend starting.
Three observations, none of them a recommendation.
