Mag 8 options, 20 October 2026: Tesla and Meta report tomorrow, and their contracts are missing from the tape

Prices as of 11:48 AM ET, Tuesday 20 October 2026. Options volume is the live session tape at the same moment. Everything below moves continuously and is sourced.

Tesla and Meta both report after the close tomorrow, Wednesday 21 October, and their options are nowhere on the most-active tape. With the list widened to the hundred busiest contracts in the market, not one Tesla or Meta strike appears. The Mag 8 contracts that do show up are Nvidia, Apple and Amazon, all of them expiring tomorrow. Nvidia is unchanged on the day, and its contracts sit on both sides of the price.

The group is split, four up, four down and Nvidia exactly flat. Yahoo's Nvidia quote page confirms the flat print: a previous close of $217.09 and a day's range of $212.77 to $218.46. Nvidia's 39.23 million shares by late morning compare with an average daily volume of about 118.7 million, so the stock is quiet as well as unchanged. Meta is the weakest name, and Investing.com describes its slide as investors positioning defensively ahead of the third-quarter report.

Where the contracts went

The default most-active list holds twenty-five contracts this morning, every one on SPY or QQQ, nearly all expiring today. Widened to a hundred, it still belongs to index products: 29 SPY, 27 QQQ, 10 IWM and 7 SPX contracts. The first Mag 8 contract arrives at number 39. The right-hand column below matters most. Volume divided by open interest separates new positioning from existing holders closing out.

All nine contracts expire tomorrow, 21 October. The date comes from the contract symbols themselves (NVDA261021, AAPL261021, AMZN261021). Yahoo's expiration column has disagreed with the symbol before, so the symbol is the one we trust. Every ratio is above seven times, which means the volume is mostly fresh, short-dated trading, not old positions being closed.

Nvidia, bracketed

The five Nvidia contracts make a ladder around an unchanged stock: puts at 212.5 and 215, calls at 215, 217.5 and 220, all within about $5 of the $217.09 price. Taken together, that is more than 300,000 contracts traded on both sides of the price, not a one-way push. Among the five, the 215 call has the highest ratio at 21.3 times. It is also the most expensive at $3.09, because it is the only one already in the money.

Apple shows a similar tilt, smaller in scale. The stock is down 0.54%. The 340 put is up about 26% on the day, while the 345 and 342.5 calls are down about 68% and 59%. The 342.5 call has turned over 22.7 times its open interest, the highest ratio on the list.

The two names that are missing

Tesla is the best performer in the group at +1.63%, and Meta the worst at −1.81%. Both report after Wednesday's close, IG and Yahoo Finance confirm. Neither has a single contract among the hundred busiest. The Mag 8 contracts on today's list expire on Wednesday, before either report comes out. That date alone would keep them clear of the earnings event. Earnings positioning in Tesla and Meta, wherever it is, is not happening in the most-traded strikes this morning.

Context: small caps and the Dow lead

The Russell 2000 is the strongest major index, up 1.68% at 2,774.20, and IWM has ten contracts on the most-active list. The Dow is up 0.94% at 52,455.56, the S&P 500 up 0.39% at 7,721.09 and the Nasdaq Composite up just 0.20% at 26,483.09. A heavy-tech index lagging a small-cap one fits a session where the largest names are mixed.

The 10-year Treasury yield is 5.11%, down 0.03 points. Gold is down 0.20% at $4,151.60. West Texas crude is down 0.93% at $97.62 after a wide $95.25 to $101.37 range. Benzinga's morning coverage tied the energy backdrop to Middle East shipping and infrastructure threats. The Cboe Volatility Index is down 2.39% at 18.00. Netflix reports after today's close, the first of the week's large communication-services results.

Reading it from the execution side

Three observations, none of them a recommendation.

Figures are as reported by the sources above during the 20 October 2026 session and will have moved since publication. This is a news summary, not investment advice, and nothing here is a recommendation to buy or sell any security. Options carry substantial risk and a short-dated contract can lose its entire value in minutes.
