Prices as of 11:49 AM ET, Thursday 22 October 2026. Options volume is the live session tape at the same moment. Everything below moves continuously and is sourced.
This is the heaviest session for the group in a week. The Nasdaq Composite is down 2.25%, Meta is down 5.31% the morning after its third-quarter report, and AMD is down 7.72% as chip stocks lead the slide. Eight of the nine names on our list are red. And unlike yesterday, not a single Mag 8 contract appears among the 25 most-active options. Every slot belongs to index and ETF products. The single-name story is still there, but you have to go into each company's own chain to find it.
| Ticker | Change | Price | Share volume |
|---|---|---|---|
| AAPL | +1.11 (+0.32%) | 345.10 | 13.27M |
| TSLA | −3.60 (−0.93%) | 382.87 | 28.82M |
| MSFT | −8.40 (−1.58%) | 524.55 | 6.11M |
| GOOGL | −7.48 (−2.23%) | 327.29 | 9.46M |
| AMZN | −10.48 (−3.99%) | 251.89 | 18.15M |
| NVDA | −9.18 (−4.13%) | 212.79 | 48.13M |
| AVGO | −14.86 (−4.40%) | 322.93 | 8.59M |
| META | −37.03 (−5.31%) | 660.49 | 20.97M |
| AMD | −42.68 (−7.72%) | 510.04 | 10.73M |
Apple is the only name in the green, at $345.10 and within about $3 of its 52-week high of $348.15. Nvidia, Broadcom and AMD are each trading within about $1.50 of the lows of their day ranges at this hour. Nvidia still leads the group on share volume, with 48.13 million shares by late morning. Yahoo Finance's midday market report puts Meta down about 5% and the Nasdaq down about 2.1%, consistent with the quote board within the gap between the two timestamps.
The most-active list has 25 contracts. Seventeen are SPY, three are QQQ, four are December EWZ calls, and one is a November VIX call. No Mag 8 name and no AMD. On a day when the group is down this hard, that absence is the story: traders are expressing the move through the index, not through single names.
The index contracts that lead the list show how new that positioning is. The right-hand column separates new positioning from old positions being closed.
| Contract | Last | Volume | Open interest | Vol ÷ OI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| QQQ 715 call, same-day | 0.39 | 149,511 | 651 | 229.7× |
| SPY 767 call, same-day | 0.46 | 194,277 | 1,195 | 162.6× |
| SPY 762 put, same-day | 0.93 | 219,821 | 4,107 | 53.5× |
| QQQ 710 put, same-day | 2.92 | 108,958 | 7,910 | 13.8× |
The expiries come from the contract symbols (SPY261022, QQQ261022), which put all four on today, 22 October. Yahoo's expiration column shows the previous day on this list, so the symbol is the one we trust. The SPY 762 put is the single busiest contract on the board and is up more than 600% on the day; the calls above spot have lost more than 90% of their value since yesterday's close.
Meta reported after Wednesday's close. Fortune reported revenue up 26% to $64.6 billion, with legal settlements and rising AI spending weighing on profit and free cash flow. Shares rose after hours, but the regular session has gone the other way.
Meta's own chain for the Friday expiry (symbol META261023, 23 October) shows where the single-name activity went:
| Contract | Last | Volume | Open interest | Vol ÷ OI |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| META 660 call, 23 Oct | 7.41 | 15,724 | 506 | 31.1× |
| META 680 call, 23 Oct | 1.88 | 10,782 | 431 | 25.0× |
| META 700 call, 23 Oct | 0.46 | 16,436 | 2,993 | 5.5× |
| META 630 put, 23 Oct | 1.00 | 8,450 | 3,845 | 2.2× |
| AMD 500 put, 23 Oct | 4.25 | 18,473 | 4,606 | 4.0× |
The 660 call is struck within a dollar of the stock's $660.49 and has traded more than thirty times the open interest it carried into the session. That is a strike that barely existed before today and is now the centre of Meta's short-dated tape. The 700 call, which carried the most open interest coming in, turned over at a far lower ratio, which points more to existing holders exiting than to fresh positioning. On the put side, the ratios are modest. AMD's busiest contract is the Friday 500 put, about $10 below spot, at four times its open interest.
The S&P 500 is down 1.27% at 7,658.93, the Dow down 0.21% at 52,743.40 and the Russell 2000 down 0.34% at 2,771.51. The Cboe Volatility Index is up 13.54% at 18.94. Investing.com describes the AMD drop as part of a selloff across the semiconductor group rather than company-specific news. Yahoo Finance's live coverage links the slide to rising oil and investors weighing the Meta and Tesla reports.
West Texas crude is up 1.15% at $98.27, and gold is down 2.03% at $4,065.90. The 10-year Treasury yield is 5.01%, down 0.14 points.
Tesla, which also reported last night, is holding up better than the group, down 0.93%. CNBC reported a beat on adjusted earnings and revenue, with automotive revenue down 3% and the full-year capital spending plan cut to $20 billion from $25 billion.
Three observations, none of them a recommendation.
