Options Sniper on Mac: what is fixed, and what the rifle looks like for now

The macOS build installs, launches, logs in and draws its own interface properly. That was not true yesterday. Five separate faults were found and fixed inside a day, and all five are confirmed working on a real Mac rather than assumed working from a build log.

What was wrong, briefly

Each one has a real cause worth reading if you build software, and they are written up properly in the full post. The short version: four of the five were invisible from the Windows machine they were built on, and none would have been found without one person reporting exactly what he saw instead of "it doesn't work".

The rifle is low poly on Mac, and will be for a while

This is the honest part. On Windows the weapon panel is a proper WebGL surface: real materials, real lighting, the finish you have seen in the exhibit. That panel is hosted inside a browser runtime that exists only on Windows, and it is embedded using a window-handle technique that has no equivalent on macOS. It is not a setting, and it is not a port that was skipped — it is a different mechanism that would have to be built from scratch.

So macOS gets the software renderer: the same rifle, drawn in software, with visibly lower detail. It is not a placeholder and it is not broken. It is what a Mac gets until the panel is rebuilt on something cross-platform.

What that does not cost you: anything that trades. The rifle is a control surface, not a feature. The engine, the research step, the Logic Pack layer, the simulator, the entitlement checks and every control are identical on both platforms. A Mac and a Windows machine running the same Logic Pack reach the same decision. The difference is how pretty the thing you click on is.

What is coming

UI work on the Mac build is planned, and the renderer is the main target. No date, because a date given now would be a guess dressed up as a commitment — and the open-source release on 30 October is the thing with a real deadline attached. When the panel improves it will arrive as an ordinary update, and it will be written up here the same way these fixes were.

What is worth saying plainly: Mac is no longer a second-class build that technically exists. It installs, it logs in, it looks like the product. The renderer is the remaining gap, and it is a known one.

Requirements

macOS 12 or later, Apple Silicon only — M1 and later. There is no Intel build: the last Intel build machine available to us is being retired, and Apple has not shipped an Intel Mac since 2023. On first launch, right-click the app and choose Open rather than double-clicking it.

If something still goes wrong, the errors now say what they are instead of blaming your licence. Send the exact text.
